By A Window

a few things explained by ear
the toll of pain opened a door
soon to be larger than this
i'll answer with grace and style
separating bone from the muscle
and the kind from the evil.

replace chocolates with red pepper sauce
and tell the hungry dinner is a luxury
where air clotted together in a block
i saw eyes pierce a frame with light
another gathering made by the sound of hooves
knocking at the door
for a hand out
blessings come forward in wild things.

a fragrance that gives itself once
his touch is still grazing the barriers
of thought
encircling the red of my lips
bullets are born
and flowers stand
in immodesty's garden
a poet may land.
